Funding Categories

We fund various research projects, spanning across a few categories:

Grant Value: Up to $50,000 per year tenable for a maximum of 2 years

Research must pertain to the activities of one of the five departments
and the applicants must be a member of one of these five departments.
However, applicants may apply with co-investigators who are not
members of one of the five departments as long as the applicant is
actively involved in the research. The HLF does not fund activities related
to routine clinical care including database development

Scholarship Value: Up to $50,000 per year tenable for a maximum of
1 year

The Research Scholarship aims to provide opportunities for applicants who are looking to undertake practical research training in one of the 5 departments. Applicant should have at least 50% of time dedicated to research work. Clinical work needs to be strictly limited. The Fund would encourage applicants who wish to enrol in a higher degree.

Grant Value: Up to $3,000 per application

The applicant and author of published article must be employed within one of the five departments. It must be original clinical research for a first author, which has been appropriately peered reviewed. The publication is expected within a quality journal as determined by the trustees which doesn’t include review articles or case studies. There is also an expectation that an open acknowledgement will be made to the fund.

This travel funding is awarded annually to give a staff member the opportunity to do more than attend a conference as it also allows time for education and observation at overseas institutions and the chance to
network with people in similar roles. Additionally, it is the only funding
which permits attendance at overseas courses. All senior paramedical
and technical staff, nurses in senior designated positions and level 4 staff
nurses, who work in the departments represented by the Fund, are
eligible to apply.

Financial assistance to attend national and international conferences will be awarded by the Trustees quarterly. Applicants will be nurses or allied health professionals who are an Auckland City Hospital employee in one of the services represented by the Trustees on the Fund Board.

The Mornington Brennan Nurses Scholarship provides financial assistance to nursing staff doing post-graduate study. It may be awarded annually to any registered nurse, who has worked for a minimum of 2 years in one of the 5 Departments supported by the Fund, who is currently undertaking, or planning to undertake, post-graduate study. The scholarship can be used to reimburse course fees only. This award is aimed at nurses who suffer financial hardship to whom other assistance to meet course fees is not available

Scholarship Value: Up to $3,000 per scholarship

The Post Graduate Study Scholarships are available annually and are to be
used to reimburse university post-graduate course fees for the upcoming
year. Applicants will be nurses or allied health professionals who are an Auckland City Hospital employee in one of the services represented by the
Trustees on the Fund Board.
